Swern Leads Rutgers Track And Field To Third Place Finish, Colonial Relays

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Junior Steve Swern (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) was victorious in two events and competed on the third-place 4x400 relay squad as the Rutgers men's track and field team scored 63 points to finish third at the Colonial Relays, hosted by William & Mary on Saturday, April 5.

Swern ran an NCAA regional time of 52.34 in the 400-meter hurdles and earned his second crown of the meet in the 400-meter dash in 48.45. Both marks were also IC4A and BIG EAST qualifying times.

Swern led a trio of Scarlet Knights who also scored points in the 400 hurdles. Senior Jahmone Duhaney (Boonton, N.J.) took second behind Swern with an IC4A, BIG EAST time of 52.71, followed by freshman Aaron Younger (Franklinville, N.J.) who placed sixth with a BIG EAST time of 54.65.

Sophomore Bruce Owens (Wenonah, N.J.) was the Scarlet Knights' other individual event winner as he took top honors in the 200-meter dash in 21.41 (IC4A, BE). Also posting an IC4A and BIG EAST qualifying time was junior Kyle Grady (East Brunswick, N.J.) in the 110-meter hurdles. Grady ran a time of 14.78 to place third, while freshman Tyrone Putman (Ft. Washington, Md.) took fourth with a BIG EAST mark in the triple jump, recording a leap of 46' 8".
